Zarea S.A. is the oldest and best known manufacturer of sparkling wine in Rumania. Additionally the company owns the most popular brands of spirits in its country of origin.
Its history dates back to 1912, when a German entrepreneur Wilhelm Mott established a small winery in Bucharest specialising in production of sparkling wines according to the natural method. After WWII the company was nationalised. After the collapse of communism Zarea was privatised, and between 2004 and 2005 it underwent restructuring and joined the AMBRA Group.
Rumania similarly as the Czech Republic is a winemaking country and the fifth largest wine maker in Europe. Aside from wine the greatest share in the market for alcohols is held by national beverages such as: bitters, cognacs and brandy. In these segments the brands offered by Zarea are amongst the best renowned and selling ones. These include:
• sparkling wines Zarea and Athene Palace
• brandy Milcov and Arad
• bitter Carpaten
• sangria wine Corrido
• Champaign for children Robby Bubble
Thanks to the long standing tradition and recognition Zarea's brands have a big potential for growth and are consistently supported by marketing campaigns, including TV advertising campaigns - which unlike in Poland - are legal in Rumania.
The main distribution channels in the Rumania market include trading chains and traditional trade.
