  • Development strategy

The Ambra Group is the largest producer and distributor of wines in the Central and Eastern Europe Market. At the moment the Ambra group is made up of 12 companies operating in Poland, the Czech Republic, Slovakia and Romania. Ambra S.A. has a strategic shareholder - the Sektkellerei Schloss Wachenheim AG, which is one of the world's leading winemaking corporations and one of the the leading market players in Germany and France. Thanks to the availability of capital, competences and resources of an international wine corporation, the strategy of the AMBRA Group has concentrated on gaining and developing its leading position in the main markets of our part of Europe.

The involvement of a strong industry specific shareholder helped the group to quickly develop competitive advantages and contributed to the success of the AMBRA Group. The benefits and synergies flowing from the collaboration with SSW mainly include the joint purchasing group of wines, production materials and technologies as well as access to new products from European Markets, possibility of using production capacities of plants in Germany and France as well as exchange of information in all fields of operation.
A very important factor of the market expansion strategy is the growth of wine markets in our region. Due to the low level of wine consumption as compared to the European average, and bearing in mind other macroeconomic factors, wine markets of the Central Eastern Europe, and especially the Polish market, have great long term potential for dynamic growth. Experiences from other markets also indicate lower sensitivity of wine consumption to economic slow down than it is the case in other sectors.

Our market leader strategy assumes maintaining of leading position in all important segments of markets and distribution channels. On the one hand it implies creation of growth conditions conforming to growth and segmentation of market and avoiding risk of incorrectly selected specialisation. On the other hand the leader also makes profits in difficult market conditions and is better prepared - also financially wise - for better than average growth in prosperity conditions.

Implementation of this ambitious strategy is based on the one hand on a portfolio of strong and well known brands, and on the other hand on specialised enterprises ensuring competence and competitiveness of the offer in individual market segments and distribution channels. The AMBRA Group has gained the position of comprehensive market leader in the Polish market, where every third bottle of wine consumed comes from our group. Due to the number of wine product assortments and the differentiation of distribution channels, the AMBR Group operates in the Polish market via 4 specialised companies offering their customers and consumers assortments of wines, which is summed, make up the greatest wine offer in the market over 4 000 individual wines.

Since 2003 AMBRA has been consistently strengthening its position in Poland and developing its operations in Central and Eastern European countries. Elements of this strategy included takeover of majority shareholding packages in Polish companies PH Vinex Slaviantsi Poland Sp. z o.o. and TiM S.A., as well as purchase of shares in LPdV Sp. z o.o. On the other hand the taking over of Wine Club and Wine House companies, and then merging them with Centrum Wina resulted in establishment of the largest retail chain of wine stores in Poland. The AMBRA Grooup intends to continue development of the already existing chain of stores in the future.

The AMBRA Group is striving to gain and strengthen a dominating position in wine markets of the Central and Eastern Europe. Currently AMBRA S.A. holds 100% of shares in Czech company Soare Sekt operating in the Czech Republic and via its subsidiary Soare Sekt Slovakia it also exerts its presence in the Slovak market. On the other hand in the Rumanian market AMBRA increased its share in the capital of ZAREA to 51 %.

The leading position gained by the AMBRA group over the recent years in the Central and Eastern Europe makes it possible for us to fully participate in the growth of these markets. During the economic slow down phase currently experienced by countries of our region the AMBRA Group will concentrate on improving profitability and realisation of synergy, as the potential of these factors is of great significance, especially in the area of market operations, distribution, production and purchase. This goal will be facilitated by the restructuring activities completed throughout 2008, including: concentration on the most profitable market assortment, i.e. the main brands, closing of one of the two production plants in the Czech Republic and transfer of the production to the other plants of the AMBRA Group as well as the merger of Wine Club, Wine House and Centrum Wina.
